In 1935, studies were launched for the creation of the 2CV, with simple specifications: "be able to transport 4 people and 60 kg of potatoes at 60 km/h, and cross a field with a basket of eggs without breaking any".
49 prototypes of the 2CV were produced, before World War 2 put the launch of the little Citroën on hold. It was finally presented at the 1948 Salon de l'Auto, emphasizing simplicity, practicality and reliability over performance.
All the screws were of the same design, the small twin‑cylinder engine was air‑cooled, and the 2CV soon became the popular French car par excellence.
More than 5 million units were built by 1989, making the 2CV a veritable myth, even an art of living. It's the Deudeuche... It's part of France's national heritage, and embodies the values of authenticity and simplicity, as well as the family memories of each and every one of us, marking both the history of the country and that of each family...
Brigitte, our 2CV, is a 2CV6 with a 29 hp engine. Born in 1979, she was completely rebuilt in 2010 by a passionate owner. She joined the RetroCab fleet in 2023.
