The first Fiat 500 was launched in 1936 by Mussolini, who wanted a popular and accessible car. With its flat grille and round eyes, it was quickly likened to a famous cartoon mouse, earning it the nickname "Topolino".
But it was in 1957 that it gave way to the model we're interested in: the "Nueva" 500, little sister of the Fiat 600. Affordable and simple, it offered 4 seats for a length of less than 3 meters. Its small 500 cc engine (hence the name) developed just 13 hp, limiting its use on main roads and making it probably the very first city car.
But the success of the FIAT 500 remained limited until 1968, when the convertible version was introduced, and soon found its way onto the roads of Europe. Its small size, bright colors, cartoon‑like face and "open‑top" feature earned it the nickname of a yoghurt pot!
Production came to a halt in 1975, due to declining sales, before resuming with a more modern version decades later to meet nostalgic demand for a return to the face of the car that was part of Italy's heritage.
Our Luigi convertible dates back to 1972, and is a convertible version that carries with it a hint of Italy, with its sunroof in direct line with the sun and its red skai interior.
A real smile‑maker, the FIAT 500 attracts the sympathy of both old and young, who recognize Luigi, one of the heroes of the film Cars....
